All books are second hand
This book describes current international thinking in the field of Common Mental Disorders related to HIV-infection. It highlights postulated risk and protective factors as well as outlining the importance of these disorders in terms of their impact on HIV-infected individuals. The review of existing literature includes research conducted in Sub-Saharan Africa. Findings of a research project conducted by the author in 2005, at the start of the rollout of antiretroviral treatment in South Africa, are presented. The project sought to determine the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (such as depression and anxiety) in HIV-infected individuals attending treatment sites, and to compare this with the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders in the general South African population.
The aim of the book is to provide healthcare professionals working in HIV-treatment facilities with more in-depth knowledge of the mental health needs of HIV-seropositive individuals, thereby enabling them to provide better care for their patients.
