Thelma Neville was associated with the 1820 Settlers National Monument project from its inception. When Tom Bowker, MP for Albany, launched his crusade, in 1955, for a national monument to honour the British pioneers, she was involved in all aspects of this venture, not only as a journalist, but as a leading member of various organizations and societies in Grahamstown.
